Life can be challenging, and sometimes we may need to seek support in order to address, manage, or surmount said challenges. I feel most aligned with my calling when I am in the therapeutic space providing individual, group, or couples services.
I completed my Masters program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Vanderbilt University and my Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from George Washington University. I have experience in private practice, college counseling, and community clinic settings. Throughout my journey as a scholar-practicioner, what has been consistently emphasized both in theory and in practice is how the therapeutic relationship is one of the most pivotal factors in positive client outcomes; therefore, I gravitate towards a relational and humanistic approach in therapy, where both I and my client(s) will co-construct the goals of therapeutic treatment in a shared space without judgment. The modalities that I primarily operate from are person-centered therapy and psychodynamic therapy, which respectively focus on genuineness, empathic compassion, and client strengths, as well as how unconscious and past relational patterns contribute to the present.
Interpersonal and institutional trauma stemming from life circumstances creates psychological distress in the form of an inner misalignment, and person-centered therapy believes that facilitating alignment with one’s ideal self is how therapeutic change can happen. With my relational approach to psychotherapy, I believe that my role in treatment is to provide reparative experiences that encourage clients to gain insight into their sense of self and develop skills to regulate when engaging with the world and the people in it. In terms of couples work, I lean towards emotion-focused therapy, which addresses the core emotions in a relationship that inform interpersonal conflict and connections.
As a queer person of color, the mental health of marginalized populations is a personal and professional interest of mine; I feel comfortable working with LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals of color, survivors of sexual trauma, and couples across the lifespan. Generally speaking, I recognize that trauma can come in many forms and affect many groups of people, so my aim as a therapist is to provide support and care that prioritizes client wellbeing and fosters psychological growth. Outside of my therapy role, I am an avid reader, gamer, and dancer with a habit for baking desserts that I probably shouldn’t eat solo. You’ll probably find me going to the movie theater by myself or hypothesizing outfits at a thrift store.
